System Architecture
BedMasterEx is the industry leading collection and storage system for physiologic patient data. Our Microsoft .Net application acquires clinical data from Philips and GE patient monitoring systems and a rapidly growing list of peripheral medical devices. BedMasterEx encrypts and compresses this data to a scalable SQL database for unlimited long-term storage and mining. Our BedMasterEx database can be accessed via our client software, Citrix thin client solutions from your office, and remotely via the hospital’s network.

Continuous backup and archive options are available to maximize your hardware investments. All of this is accomplished with off the shelf hardware and standard networking protocols. BedMasterEx is an affordable alternative to the monitor manufacturer’s solutions for review and distribution of patient information.
Patient Data Portability
What if a patient could take their clinical waveforms from care area to care area?
As patients move through the facility all of the collected information is available to the hospital staff for review, documentation, teaching, and evaluation.
Historical review of information from the patient’s previous visits can be made available through either the primary or archive servers.

Patient Monitor Data Acquisition
BedMasterEx Ex provides concurrent acquisition of waveform, vital sign, and alarm event data from both Philips and GE patient monitoring systems. Data can be collected and stored for an unlimited period of time for every patient on the network.
- Single point of connection on the
monitoring network
- Waveforms are continuously collected in raw format as processed
by the patient monitor
- Vital Signs are collected at variable frequencies from every
5 seconds to 1 hour
- Alarm Events are captured throughout the patient’s entire
monitoring encounter
- 2kb/sec/bed (max 200kb) incoming traffic
- 2kb/sec/user (max 100kb) outgoing traffic
Medical Device Data Acquisition
- Integrated through the patient monitor or independently with serial hubs
and the HIS
- Vital sign and data collection at variable frequencies from 5 seconds
to 1 hour
- Raw data waveforms acquired at the same rate as generated by the
device
- High-resolution video acquisition up to 30 frames per second
Patient Data and Waveform Portability
By linking patient records using a unique ID, we can provide a single, longitudinal record as the patient moves through multiple care areas in the hospital. Using a HL7 interface to your hospital’s ADT system, we can automatically link the patient’s ID to the appropriate clinical data.
Data Export Options
- Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access for data review and mining
- XML, Binary, HL7 and other formats available for interface to hospital and EMR systems
Security
BedMasterEx ensures your clinical data is kept PRIVATE and SECURE.
- HIPAA compliance
- Unique user name and passwords
- Log on / Log off audits
- Administrative control of user privileges, deletes, and disable
- All data is compressed and encrypted using proprietary algorithms
- Virus software can be installed by facility with no effect on BedMasterEx
Architecture
> Locally hosted server
> Standard hardware supplied by EME or purchased independently
> Minimum client PC requirements Windows XP
> Real memory for server minimum requirements of 2Gb
> Real memory for client minimum requirements of 500kb
Application
- Client / Server application
- Universal Naming Convention compliant
- Administrative rights required to install on client PC
- Availability of application and server is 24/7
- Scheduled downtime dictated by facility
Clinical Information System HL7 Interface
Electronic Medical Record Integration - Reduce medical errors and clinical staff time by sending patient data from your BedMasterEx database directly to your hospital’s electronic medical record. Integrate your patient monitor and medical device data using our cost-effective, industry standard HL7 interface.
Admit Discharge Transfer (ADT) Integration
By linking patient records using a unique ID, we can provide a single, longitudinal record as the patient moves through multiple care areas in the hospital. Using a HL7 interface to your hospital’s ADT system, we can automatically link the patient’s ID to the appropriate clinical data ensuring the correct patient information is linked to your clinical data.
Medical Device Connectivity
Device Connectivity - Eliminate the “holes” in clinical data by gathering medical device data in your hospital. BedMasterEx provides your hospital an economical solution for long-term data collection from medical devices throughout your intensive care units and patient rooms.
Medical Devices
BedMasterEx provides a cost-effective way of collection, storage, and time synchronization of the data from a growing list of medical devices. Data may be collected either by connection to a GE or Philips patient monitor or by use of commercially available serial hubs. The later method utilizes a single mounted hub in each patient room. The serial hub has multiple ports and each integrated device is assigned a particular color coded port. Our collection of these unique data sets allows for trending and correlation of parameters exported from the medical devices. Our device list is driven by customer request and currently includes but is not limited to:

Remote View
The remote viewing feature of BedMasterEx gives the ability to connect with full system capability from your office or home. Near real-time and historical patient data and waveforms are accessible with the same functionalities you have at any hospital terminal. If your BedMasterEx has integrated video then the synchronized visual image of the patient is also available to remote users.
Remote view features:
- Near real-time and historical vital signs, alarms, and waveforms
- Near real-time and historical video
- Unlimited full disclosure
- BedMasterEx’s database is fully routable over an Intranet, Internet,
VPN connection or dedicated line
- Citrix / Terminal Services environment compatible
- Viewing is licensed by concurrent users and there’s no practical limit to the number of users in a System
