Nursing is a field that is extremely important to nurses and advocates for patients. The study’s goal was to explain the concept of patient advocacy to Iranian clinical nurses in their own words. Interviews were recorded and, in order to gain a general understanding, at least three other interviews were conducted. Then, semantic units in the interviews were converted to compact semantic units, each with a distinct code assigned to it. Each code was classified into a subclass and a class based on its differences and similarities.
The study and its ethical considerations were approved and permitted by and through the Research Deputy of Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Kerman, Iran. The 15clinical nurses with an average of 8 years and 3 months and ages ranging from 32.25 years to 34.4 years were chosen from select wards that would be appropriate for the larger study. According to the participants’ statements, patient advocacy had two primary themes: empathy with patients and protection of patients. Compassion is defined as a feeling of compassion toward others as a result of their suffering and the motivation to assist them. Compassion is synonymous with co-pain, as people cannot ignore the suffering of others. Humans tend to view their problems in terms of their own, and they feel a close bond with their fellow humans.
