Manatee Memorial Hospital is a 281-bed acute care facility located in Bradenton, Florida. The hospital provides a full range of services, including emergency care, cardiac care, cancer care, orthopedic care and women’s services. In addition, Manatee Memorial Hospital is home to the only Level II trauma center in Manatee County.
A score of this hospital indicates the amount of infections that occurred within this facility as well as the expected amount. A lower-than- expected infection rate is a sign that infections are less likely to occur. During the COVID-19 pandemic, data on the standardized infection ratio (SIR) was collected. After caring for a patient, it is critical that doctors and nurses wash their hands. If catheters are used incorrectly, the patient’s urinary tract may develop a dangerous infection. Furthermore, a safer hospital will keep C diff patients from being separated from other patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the standardized infection ratio (SIR) includes some data.
This is an indication of how many catheter-associated infections were reported in the urinary tract in this hospital, as opposed to the expected number. Fewer infections are expected than expected with a lower number; more infections are expected with a higher number. This is the number of surgical patients who developed sepsis infection every 1,000 people who had surgery. An object that could have been left behind by a surgeon during surgery may have inadvertently entered the patient’s body. Safest Hospitals do the following: The team in the operating room must count the number of sponges and other tools on the operating table. When blood vessels are injured during surgery, they may leak blood into the body. There can be significant organ damage from both internal bleeding and blood clots.
Before the body can be closed, surgical sites must be sewn or fused shut completely. Safe hospitals have some of the best services. A number of hospital employees test the blood of patients in order to determine their chemical and hormone levels. This Hospital’s Score is based on the number of times patients with surgery experience serious breathing problems per 1,000 patients. One of the most common surgical mistakes is accidental cuts and tears in the abdomen and pelvic region. This hospital is frequently cited as the cause of bed sores, which can be caused by poor patient care. Stage 3 or 4 pressure ulcers are large and deep ulcers that have spread to other parts of the body.
Falls can occur if a patient, who is unable to walk on their own, tries to leave the bed and uses the restroom frequently. When a patient has a broken hip, they may have to stay in the hospital for longer periods of time. When the air leaks out of the lungs, a collapsed lung forms. It is possible for this type of lung injury to be fatal and cause severe chest pain. Blood clots form in veins as a result of damage to the tissue in which the clot forms. The use of compression devices by physicians is a method of applying pressure to the areas of the body where a blood clot may form. Air embolisms occur when a patient has an air or gas bubble in their blood for every 1,000 discharged from a hospital.
A hospital can earn up to 100 points if it uses a comprehensive bar coding system to track medication orders. Good CPOE systems identify when a doctor orders a medication that could harm a child, such as ordering an adult dosage for a child. When hospitals use bar codes for all orders effectively, medication errors are much less common. When healthcare workers care for patients, they can prevent infections and illnesses by keeping their hands clean. Hospitals earn up to 60 points for having a handwashing policy and evaluating the effectiveness of it. A measure of how well staff communicates with patients about the assistance they require at home is referred to as the Communication about Discharge measure. This Hospital’s Score represents the patient perceptions of how well this hospital communicated with them about the resources they needed to return to their homes after discharge.
The higher the score, the more effective communication; the lower the score, the less effective communication. To earn 120 points, hospitals must have a strong culture of safety, provide feedback to employees, and put in place procedures to prevent errors. Nurses provide the majority of patient care rather than doctors. If the number of qualified nurses is not sufficient, the patient may experience more complications, longer hospital stays, and even death. An intensivist, a doctor who specializes in intensive care units, is a great asset to hospitals. Physicians who have advanced training in intensive or critical care are referred to as intensivists. The communication with nurses measurement, which measures how well nurses treat and explain to patients what they are doing, is intended to demonstrate how well patients feel that they are explained to, listened to, and treated.
Some data from the COVID-19 pandemic was included in the patient experience score. The Responsiveness of Hospital Staff metric is based on patient feedback on how long it takes for a staff member to respond to a request for assistance. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which assigns hospital safety grades based on overall performance, assesses a hospital’s overall performance in patient safety. Based on analysis of publicly available data, up to 31 measures of hospital safety are used to calculate grades. We will not represent or imply that The Leapfrog Group is liable in any way for any individual patient’s potential or actual outcomes as a result of receiving care at these hospitals.
