Doj Agreement With Chs Exposes Decades Of Fraud
According to a recent agreement between CHS and the US Department of Justice, the company paid doctors and other medical staff based on false data about patient counts as part of its False Claims Act settlement. According to the Department of Justice, CHS paid medical staff inflated patient census figures over a ten-year period, resulting in the company paying out millions of dollars in fraudulent claims. Since its inception more than 80 years ago, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center has worked hard to maintain a community-based healthcare model. The hospital has recently changed its name to better reflect its commitment to the Lake Norman region, and the DOJ’s accusations do not reflect the values of the hospital or the people who have trusted it for generations. We are grateful to the Department of Justice for its assistance in investigating these claims and bringing CHS to justice. As a result of this settlement, we hope that other hospitals and healthcare providers will adopt the best practices for data collection and fraud prevention.
